Painting offers a unique way for me to express myself. I am compelled to try and 'push' energy through to a new place each time. This prefers to have nothing to do with my conscious mind, other than the minor thought processes of choosing tools, materials or applications. Otherwise, I require painting to be spirit - my spirit - often troubled and chaotic - pressing into, sweeping over, and smudging into matter, until the spirit is cleared. That's when the painting is finished.
In these paintings, there are small spaces representing 'pockets' of thought or belief, there are colour-moods, the intertwining of geometrical and biological shapes, lines, characters ...and some degree of balance throughout. Like the world that impacts me daily, there are peaceful areas and areas of war and devastation. I believe that these paintings, and the ones that will follow, are signs offering information to the spirit, the illustration of pathways through a problem.
