Millennium "Go Virtual" Modules

On the Go Virtual page we offer two "virtual module" options:

1. Virtual Art Opening is the one you would use to join the scheduled Art Openings.

2. Global Symposium is used for larger discussion groups and scheduled events.

Both these virtual modules are java based and reguire you to grant the download of a small java applet. Just click yes, ok, or grant when your browser asks for your permission.

Virtual Art Opening Module - Overview

The Millennium Virtual Art Opening facility is an amazing innovation created specifically for the Millennium Art Gallery site. It features a split frame design, with 1/3 of your screen being a text communications console and the rest of your screen being an in-frame version of the Millennium Art Gallery site. This innovative design allows you to surf the Millennium site and simultaneously carry on a conversation with one or many other Art Opening guests.

You can invite friends and guests to come along on tours of your favorite Portfolio-Gallery and you will be able to simultaneously view and discuss individual artworks. If you are an exhibiting artist yourself, you can conduct guided tours of your Portfolio-Gallery, for one or hundreds of guests, answer questions concerning your creative process and discuss particular images in your portfolio.

VIRTUAL ART OPENING MANUAL:

Lets take a look at some of the functions and control buttons that you can use in the "Virtual" environment. We recomend that you print this manual out and use it when you enter the Virtual area to quickly learn all the modules functions. To access the Virtual Art Opening and the Global Symposium entry consoles on the previous page you must first type in your Name then click Enter. If you do not type in a name the module will not work.

1. First Enter Your Name: (Enter your name or nickname into the "Your Name" field by placing your curser over the text entry field then clicking and typing in your name

2. Then Click the Enter Button. Your browser will ask you if it is ok to download a small java applet. It is safe to do so. Just click "Yes", or "OK" or "Grant" to approve the download. It is about a 50k applet and will load in a matter of seconds.

3. Then Take a Look Around: Once you have entered the Virtual Art Opening area you will see a green communication console on the left of your screen. You will notice it has Gallery 1 written at the top of it and on the lower left there is a small text entry field (right next to the letter B). Click your mouse into it and type. Then when you have typed your message, hit Enter on your keyboard to send it to the room.

You can change the color of your text, for special effect, by typing then clicking on any color in the color bar then hitting Enter on your keyboard. Clicking on B will bold your text.

To Chat Privately with another guest double click on their name in the que. This will cause a small, private chat window to open. Click your mouse into the "text input field" along the bottom of this window. It is possible to chat privately and to continue reading and chatting in the public room, which can be lots of fun.

You will notice three brown buttons just above the green Gallery 1 module. They are named:

1. Portal, which returns you to the Go Virtual enter page and,

2. Opening, which will return you to the Virtual Art Opening starting page. A handy feature for when you have gone off surfing through the Opening artists portfolios and want to get back to the headshot page quickly.

3. Enter, which moves you between rooms in the module.

You will also see two text links, at the top of the green Module:

1. Artist Portfolios which will bring up a complete index of all Millennium artists and,

2. Back to the Gallery which is how you exit the Virtual area and return to the Art Openings regular page display.

Of course don't forget to click on the artists headshots and go surfing through their galleries. To return just click on the brown "Opening" button.

Refreshing the text screen. If you find that the text screen is not displaying text properly, then click on the brown "Enter" button. This will refresh you room settings and fix any display problems.

Changing Virtual Rooms: There are five pre-made rooms available in each Virtual console. The selection automatically defaults to Gallery 1 in "Virtual Art Opening".

You may choose to move from Gallery 1 to any of the 4 other "Virtual Art Opening" Gallerys by clicking on the "Public Rooms" drop-down menu, selecting the gallery from the drop down menu then clicking "Enter". To return to Gallery 1 just click Enter again.

Note: The Play Audio, Config and Disconnect buttons on the green Gallery 1 module are not activated at this time.

Global Symposium Module - Overview

The Global Symposium is designed for larger groups of users, special presentions, seminars and general public use. Viewing artworks is not available in this module and because of this there is a much larger area available for participants to assemble. All the controls work the same for this module as above.
