Conference on Bernard Buffet: The Silence of Things: Bernard Buffet – The Silence of Things

2 December 2025

We are delighted to invite you to our next conference, part of our ongoing series devoted to painting, which will take place on December 2, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. at the Galerie du Millennium.

Theme: Bernard Buffet – The Silence of Things

Both celebrated and controversial, Bernard Buffet (1928–1999) left an indelible mark on the 20th century with his powerful and singular style — a tense, austere, and deeply expressive figuration.
In his still lifes, the simplest objects — cheeses, bottles, animal heads — become mirrors of our humanity: silence, solitude, and the passage of time.

A body of work of grave beauty, where simplicity reveals the full strength of emotion.

The conference will be led by Philippe Clerc, Swiss art historian born in 1980.
After studying art history at the University of Fribourg and working at Christie’s Geneva, he collaborated with several Swiss and international collectors.

A specialist in Swiss and French painting of the 19th and 20th centuries, he has published numerous works on Ferdinand Hodler, Courbet, and the Geneva school of artists.
He is currently the curator of the Collection du Crest (Geneva).

On this occasion, several original works by Bernard Buffet will be presented at the Galerie du Millennium, offering visitors an intimate encounter with the artist’s universe.

We look forward to welcoming you for this inspiring evening dedicated to one of the most striking painters of his time, followed by a friendly drink at the gallery.
